Fall Out Boy Not Completely Done

Fall Out Boy

Pete Wentz says talk of Fall Out Boy’s demise has been blown out of proportion – but he isn’t sure when the rock band will performing together again.

Earlier this week, lead singer Patrick Stump told Spin.com that the group was done after Wentz tweeted that he didn’t see a future for the platinum band.

But on Friday, Wentz said band members are just doing things apart and it’s not clear where their future lies.

“We just haven’t had the time to say anything. All I have been able to do is say, ‘Man, I miss doing Fall Out Boy,’ and I got to a better place hanging out with my son,” the bassist said of his infant son Bronx.

“Now I’m OK if Fall Out Boy comes back or doesn’t come back. Like, if it’s fun for everyone to do again, we’re going to do it … I just want it to be authentic when we come back,” said Wentz, in town for Super Bowl festivities.

Though he was at a Venus Williams rooftop party to DJ on Friday afternoon, he said he couldn’t see himself doing music seriously on his own: “I don’t know that I’m really cut out to be a solo artist. It’s never really been an aspiration of mine.”

Wentz said he has e-mailed Stump and the two are still cool with each other.

“We just wanted to talk about how blown out of proportion it’s gotten. It’s to the point where we’re gonna make ‘I Quit Fall Out Boy’ T-shirts, just goofing around about it,” he said. “We don’t want any animosity about it at all.”

The Who rock the Super Bowl

The Who at the Superbowl

The Who were the halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl at Sun Life Stadium in Miami today.

With limited time and a lifetime of hits The Who managed to cover their career by performing a medley of some of their best songs.

Despite the controversy from a redneck element of Miami residents protesting the arrival of Pete Townshend over a child porn incident years ago where he was not charged, nothing impacted on the day to cause any form of chaos.

Major Lazer puts out Beyonce cover

February 1st, 2010 by biancardi

Don't act like that wouldn't be a radsauce party.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but we can all thank our lucky stars that we’re not currently zombies to the efforts of one Jamaican commando with a lazer cannon for an arm and a rocket-propelled skateboard.  Who do I speak of, you say?  Allow me to introduce you to Major Lazer.

Major Lazer, the collaborative effort between world-renowned DJs Diplo (from Miami) and Switch (a London boy), that culminated in the onstage persona of Major Lazer, a Jamaican commando who fought in the Secret 1984 Zombie War and lost his arm, had it replaced by a lazer cannon, and now destroys dance-floors the world over with ballerish dancehall club tunes that could qualify as an export from Kingston.  Confused?  Don’t worry, all you need to know is that you need to know this spectacle.  Like, now.

In addition to the album Gunz Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do!, the debut album that came out last year, Major Lazer has kept busy with remixes, most notably and recently a remix of the Beyonce tune “Halo.”  You can find the link for their Myspace and the song below, and remember, keep vigilant for lazers and dance parties.  They’re everywhere man.

You can find the remix here.

Phoenix snags Grammy for Alternative Music Album

February 1st, 2010 by biancardi

It's good to see Wayfarers are still gracing classy people.

Phoenix, a rastabout group of stylish Parisian boys, are living proof that a) the French are still more than able to shred a dance floor to a fine julienne cut, and b) the world is still paying attention.

At last night’s Grammy awards, Phoenix was given the nod for best Alternative Music Album with last year’s solid work Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  Phoenix managed to beat out the likes of David Byrne, Death Cab For Cutie, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Phoenix just tidied up a North American tour this past fall, and their website is replete with photos from the venture and commentary from the band.  Also, for the Phoenix-savvy, I’ve never seen anyone bring back the zeppelin with so much panache.

Liam Gallagher: ‘My post-Oasis album will be out by July’

Liam Gallagher

Liam Gallagher’s new band are aiming to release an album by July.

The singer says that his new group – featuring former Oasis bandmates Andy Bell and Gem Archer – had eight songs, and are aiming to head into the studio soon.

“A lot of these songs I wrote before the band [Oasis] split up,” Gallagher told XFM. “I mean, there’s a few new ones on there that are coming out now.”

He added: “We’re going in [the studio] in April with a producer, we’re going to do three songs with him and if he doesn’t balls it up and we don’t balls it up then we’ll go in and do the whole album with him.”

Gallagher suggested he was keen to get on with the new, still nameless group - saying he regretted the fact that Oasis only made seven albums in the 16 years they had a record deal. He called the amount of music Oasis’ put out in their career “poor”, and chastised the band for taking so long to produce new material.

“Seven albums for Oasis is not good, I don’t think. We’ve been going 18 years, 16 years or whatever and all we’ve done is seven albums. Ian Brown’s on his seventh solo album. I just think it’s poor, really,” Gallagher said.

“I’m not going to beat myself up about it, I think we should have made better, bigger albums. Or more albums. Having like four or five years off is just no good,” he added. “Obviously Noel (Gallagher) wanted a bit of time off and we don’t. The band split in August – we was in the studio in November ‘cos we’re mad for it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Gallagher said he wants to appear on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here or Total Wipeout – but only if no other contestants are involved.

“I’d like to do all that shit,” he said, before adding that Total Wipeout is his favourite reality TV programme of the moment. “They do it in Argentina. I’d love to do it on my jaxy, with no one about.”

Kasabian follow in Beatles footsteps

Kasabian

Kasabian claim they are like The Beatles.

Frontman Tom Meighan believes he and his bandmates – Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews – are like the Fab Four because they have obsessive fans who have different ‘favourites’.

He said: ‘I think I get the eccentric fans because we are like The Beatles. Everyone has a favourite. I’m the cocky, honest, Tasmanian Devil one.’

As well as being a fan of The Beatles, Tom is a huge admirer of Oasis and insists Liam Gallagher should release a solo album because he can still make ‘amazing’ music without his brother Noel Gallagher.

The 29-year-old singer – whose band joined Oasis on their last ever tour before they split in August – said in an interview with Q magazine: ‘I think Liam should go it alone. It’s not Oasis without Noel, and I think they’d both agree with that. Did I see it coming? No I can’t say I did. I was in Germany doing a terrible festival when someone texted me they’d split up and I was as shocked as anyone.

‘I texted Liam and Noel just to say, ‘I am really sorry and best of luck,’ to both of them. It’s sad but the new music will be just amazing.’

Lady Gaga wanted as a judge on the US version of ‘The X Factor’

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

The ‘Bad Romance’ singer impressed producer-and-judge Simon Cowell when she performed in a giant bathtub on the UK version of the TV talent show last year and the music mogul is desperate for her to bring her eccentricities to the upcoming series.

A source said: “Simon thinks Lady Gaga is great and really likes her energy. Conversations have been happening between Cowell’s US team and her people about what kind of role she could have on the show.”

The 23-year-old American star is said to be checking her hectic schedule to see if it is something she could fit in, but with her relentless touring commitments it may not be possible.

Earlier this month, Simon announced he would leave ‘American Idol’ to launch the US ‘X Factor’ after sealing a $160 million deal.

Other stars being tipped for a position on the judging panel include former Spice Girl Mel B, Paula Abdul and Cheryl Cole.

Iron Man Vs. AC/DC

The music of AC/DC may have only had a cameo in the first installment of Marvel Studios’ 2008 smash “Iron Man,” but the Aussie rockers own the soundtrack for the upcoming sequel.

Tracks from throughout the band’s career, including “Back in Black,” which was played on a boombox during a key scene in the first film, feature heavily in “Iron Man 2,” due to hit theatres May 7.

The sequel’s official soundtrack, AC/DC: Iron Man 2, will include 15 classic songs from the band, including “Thunderstruck,” “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It),” “Let There Be Rock,” “Highway to Hell” and “Shoot to Thrill,” the first single from the album.

The disc is due to drop April 19, with pre-orders for deluxe CD+DVD and 2-LP vinyl packages available through Walmart.com and Amazon.

Here’s the video for “Shoot to Thrill,” which includes footage shot last month in Buenos Aires during the band’s Black Ice world tour as well as scenes from “Iron Man 2.”
