The Dead Weather

The Dead Weather

Jack White has announced that The Dead Weather will be playing a free show at Shoreditch Church this Saturday, October 31.

Speaking live on NME Radio to DJ Iain Baker this afternoon (October 29), White said that The Dead Weather would play the show at the east London venue which is the location for the latest pop-up shop being staged by his label Third Man Records.

The store will be open tomorrow (30) and Saturday, and White revealed the band would take to the stage for the free show at 8pm (GMT) on Saturday.

He added that he hoped the gig will bring the spirit of an American Halloween to London.

The show will be broadcast live exclusively on NME Radio. To tune in, head to Sky Channel 0184, Virgin Media 975, Freesat 727, DAB in London or NME.COM/radio.

“It’d be nice if you came covered in blood,” Alison Mosshart told fans, when asked if the band would be wearing themed Halloween costumes.

“I’ll give a record you can only get from me to the person who’s covered in blood the most,” added White, before quickly confirming that the blood should be fake.

The pop-up shop is Third Man’s first outside the US, although White suggested he could open them in Mexico and possibly Texas following stints in Los Angeles and New York earlier in the year.

Jay-Z Slated For New Single Next Week

Thursday, October 29th, 2009 by biancardi

"I beat Elvis? Snap!"

Apparently, Jay-Z had a whole mess of plans previously unknown to unfurl still from his latest “blueprint”.  Aside from returning to the UK for a second sell-out full house show at Alexandra in just a matter of weeks, Jay-Z has aligned the event for next week with the release of his next single “Empire State of Mind”, featuring fellow New Yorkian crooner Alicia Keys.  Jay-Z has been stomping up and down not only the Billboard after the release of the closing chapter to the Blueprint series, “The Blueprint 3″, but has coasted alongside favorable praise from critics and hysterical ardor from his many-a-legion of fans.

Jay-Z can also cite a one-over on Elvis Presley nowadays, an impressive feat to say the least.  After the release of his latest album, which debuted at number 1 on Billboard and brought the rapper to a grand total of 11 chart-topping records, Jay-Z has taken the spot for the largest number of number one albums by a solo act, just pulling ahead of ‘The King’’s grand aggregate.

Lily Allen to set up her own record label

Lily Allen is not turning her back on music

Lily Allen is not turning her back on music

Lily Allen has said that despite previously declaring she is not planning to release another album, she is not leaving music behind – but working on setting up her own record label.

The singer told BBC 6music that she was “in talks” about setting up her own imprint, and suggested her work in the music industry may develop into a more behind-the-scenes role, rather than as a singer.

“I’m not retiring from music,” she said. “I might retire from singing for a bit. I feel like maybe having a bit of a break from doing that and do something else for a while.”

She added: “I love working in music. I like to help other bands so I’m thinking about – well, we’re in talks about – setting up my own label and dedicating the next couple of years to that.”

Allen also said she was in talks about appearing in a West End show.

Billy Corgan Talks Smack About H1N1 Vaccine

Thursday, October 29th, 2009 by biancardi

Billy Corgan: He's rather proud of his arts and crafts.

Billy Corgan has kept himself well included in the media for not having released any body of music in the past few years.  Between strange music videos, talk of new music outlets, and spelunking the depths of peripheral spirituality, most people seem to have a handle on the daily follies of the six foot five cue-balled icon.  And now, Corgan has decided to wax pessimistic on the current global outbreak of the H1N1 virus.

Earlier this week, Corgan released a little essay on his recently launched spiritual website Everything From Here to There, and pleased he seems not.  His rants included everything from his hypothesis that the flu was “created by man”, the role of the flu as a mechanism to garner further control by the American government, and, also in Corgan’s view, the sheerly outlandish claim of the virus as an emergency.  Oh, not to mention my favorite part, his belief that the vaccine robs humanity of choosing its own exit, in Corgan’s words, “If the virus comes to take me Home, that is between me and the Lord”.  Also, Mr. Corgan, you left your tin-foil hat on our premises, if you’d be so kind as to pick that up it’s attracting unwanted attention.

Muse named Best Act In The World

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 by xavier
Q Awards

Q Awards

Muse have been named Best Act In The World Today - but were unable to celebrate the accolade.

The Devonshire trio were bestowed the honour at the Q Awards in London today but were forced to make a swift exit from the stage due to their hectic touring schedule.

Drummer Dom Howard said: “It feels great. It’s always amazing to be nominated so we’re very privileged.”

Singer Matt Bellamy added to BANG Showbiz: “We’ve only been able to come because it’s in the afternoon, so that’s lucky for us - we have to play in Denmark tonight. It won’t quite be taking a helicopter from the roof but we have to take a care and a plane straight away. We’ll maybe carry on partying over there later.”

Kasabian were also honoured at the bash, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, picking up Best Album for their LP ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’ and admitted they were concerned they had gone “too far” in their desire for an experimental sound on the record.

Guitarist Serge Pizzorno said: “We’re really proud. It was very ambitious and we’ve been recognised for that. It was in the great tradition of British rock and roll bands, pushing things to be interesting rather than just successful. We pushed it a bit too far. It’s nice.”

However, despite their happiness, the band admitted they were also struggling to get into the celebratory mood.

Serge added: “We’re pretty much mangled from touring Europe and drinking Parisian absinthe so it’s all quite hazy at the moment.”

Although the band won Best Album, they were left disappointed after missing out on Best Track to Lily Allen’s ‘The Fear’.

The excited star was thrilled by her win -though she admitted she hadn’t been bothered what she was honoured for.

She said: “It’s really nice, I’ve never won anything before. It didn’t matter why I got it, it’s just nice to have someone say to you, ‘Well done, you’re quite good at music.’ ”

Other winners at the ceremony, which was presented by British comedian Al Murray, included Lady Gaga, whose song ‘Poker Face’ was named Best Video, Arctic Monkeys, who were Best Live Act, and Spandau Ballet, who were given the special Q Idol honour.

Q Awards 2009 with Russian Standard Vodka full winners list:

Morrissey Returns To The Stage After Collapse

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 by xavier
Morrissey is back on stage

Morrissey is back on stage

Morrissey has made a triumphant return to the stage - just three days after he collapsed at a gig.

The famous miserabilist made light of his health scare, and at one point even pretented to keel over again.

He started his set at London’s Royal Albert Hall with the Smiths’ hit This Charming Man - the last song he played before being carried off stage in Swindon on Saturday.

“Fasten your seatbelts it’s going to be a bumpy night,” he declared as he kicked off the song.

Later, he told the sell-out crowd: “The doctor said I shouldn’t smile. I told him, ‘I don’t’.”

At one point the singer lay on the floor feigning collapse before jumping to his feet and declaring: “Thank you Swindon.”

The militant vegetarian - who once cancelled a gig after discovering the venue used to be an abattoir - also took a swipe at the “unfortunate preponderance of celebrity chefs”.

He moaned: “Not one of them is vegetarian.”

The 50-year-old has cancelled several dates this year because of illness.
