Liam Gallagher: ‘My post-Oasis album will be out by July’

Liam Gallagher’s new band are aiming to release an album by July.

The singer says that his new group – featuring former Oasis bandmates Andy Bell and Gem Archer – had eight songs, and are aiming to head into the studio soon.

“A lot of these songs I wrote before the band [Oasis] split up,” Gallagher told XFM. “I mean, there’s a few new ones on there that are coming out now.”

He added: “We’re going in [the studio] in April with a producer, we’re going to do three songs with him and if he doesn’t balls it up and we don’t balls it up then we’ll go in and do the whole album with him.”

Gallagher suggested he was keen to get on with the new, still nameless group - saying he regretted the fact that Oasis only made seven albums in the 16 years they had a record deal. He called the amount of music Oasis’ put out in their career “poor”, and chastised the band for taking so long to produce new material.

“Seven albums for Oasis is not good, I don’t think. We’ve been going 18 years, 16 years or whatever and all we’ve done is seven albums. Ian Brown’s on his seventh solo album. I just think it’s poor, really,” Gallagher said.

“I’m not going to beat myself up about it, I think we should have made better, bigger albums. Or more albums. Having like four or five years off is just no good,” he added. “Obviously Noel (Gallagher) wanted a bit of time off and we don’t. The band split in August – we was in the studio in November ‘cos we’re mad for it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Gallagher said he wants to appear on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here or Total Wipeout – but only if no other contestants are involved.

“I’d like to do all that shit,” he said, before adding that Total Wipeout is his favourite reality TV programme of the moment. “They do it in Argentina. I’d love to do it on my jaxy, with no one about.”

Kasabian follow in Beatles footsteps

Kasabian

Kasabian claim they are like The Beatles.

Frontman Tom Meighan believes he and his bandmates – Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews – are like the Fab Four because they have obsessive fans who have different ‘favourites’.

He said: ‘I think I get the eccentric fans because we are like The Beatles. Everyone has a favourite. I’m the cocky, honest, Tasmanian Devil one.’

As well as being a fan of The Beatles, Tom is a huge admirer of Oasis and insists Liam Gallagher should release a solo album because he can still make ‘amazing’ music without his brother Noel Gallagher.

The 29-year-old singer – whose band joined Oasis on their last ever tour before they split in August – said in an interview with Q magazine: ‘I think Liam should go it alone. It’s not Oasis without Noel, and I think they’d both agree with that. Did I see it coming? No I can’t say I did. I was in Germany doing a terrible festival when someone texted me they’d split up and I was as shocked as anyone.

‘I texted Liam and Noel just to say, ‘I am really sorry and best of luck,’ to both of them. It’s sad but the new music will be just amazing.’

Lady Gaga wanted as a judge on the US version of ‘The X Factor’

Lady Gaga

The ‘Bad Romance’ singer impressed producer-and-judge Simon Cowell when she performed in a giant bathtub on the UK version of the TV talent show last year and the music mogul is desperate for her to bring her eccentricities to the upcoming series.

A source said: “Simon thinks Lady Gaga is great and really likes her energy. Conversations have been happening between Cowell’s US team and her people about what kind of role she could have on the show.”

The 23-year-old American star is said to be checking her hectic schedule to see if it is something she could fit in, but with her relentless touring commitments it may not be possible.

Earlier this month, Simon announced he would leave ‘American Idol’ to launch the US ‘X Factor’ after sealing a $160 million deal.

Other stars being tipped for a position on the judging panel include former Spice Girl Mel B, Paula Abdul and Cheryl Cole.

Iron Man Vs. AC/DC

The music of AC/DC may have only had a cameo in the first installment of Marvel Studios’ 2008 smash “Iron Man,” but the Aussie rockers own the soundtrack for the upcoming sequel.

Tracks from throughout the band’s career, including “Back in Black,” which was played on a boombox during a key scene in the first film, feature heavily in “Iron Man 2,” due to hit theatres May 7.

The sequel’s official soundtrack, AC/DC: Iron Man 2, will include 15 classic songs from the band, including “Thunderstruck,” “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It),” “Let There Be Rock,” “Highway to Hell” and “Shoot to Thrill,” the first single from the album.

The disc is due to drop April 19, with pre-orders for deluxe CD+DVD and 2-LP vinyl packages available through Walmart.com and Amazon.

Here’s the video for “Shoot to Thrill,” which includes footage shot last month in Buenos Aires during the band’s Black Ice world tour as well as scenes from “Iron Man 2.”

Animal Collective

Animal Collective have released a trailer for their film ODDSAC .

The film, which is currently featuring at the Sundance Film Festival, is a project the band have been working on for more than two years.

“We tried to make the music go along with the visuals as much as possible,” Avery Tare told NME.com. “We didn’t want it to sound just like a soundtrack, but then we didn’t want it to be like a music video either.” He added.

Directed by the groups frequent collaborator Danny Perez, the band also revealed a little more about the film.

“It’s kinda like a psychedelic film, it’s not like a narrative film or anything,” he explained. “There are more cohesive moments in it, but then there are some that are a little more abstract.” He added.

The film is also set for two screenings in New York and Chicago. For more information, visit ODDSAC.com.

Meanwhile, Animal Collective’s Panda Bear has recently announced he will play a one-off solo show in London in March.

U2 have revealed that they have begun work on a new album.

The follow-up to 2009’s ‘No Line On The Horizon’, the as-yet-untitled album is set to be “really special”.

“We are working on a lot of new songs,” The Edge told EW.com. “Some of them are really, really happy. We’re convinced that we have something really special.”

Adding that the band have been working on material in-between legs of their world tour, the guitarist revealed a little more about the making of the album.

“We are experimenting with a lot of different arrangements, and electronic is one of the things we are playing with,” he explained. “But there are other songs that are very traditional, almost folk. That’s the thing we haven’t figured out yet, where this album is going to end up.”

Meanwhile, U2 frontman Bono has recorded a new song with Jay-Z, to help raise money for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Haiti.

Spice Girls

A musical about The Spice Girls is being planned by the band’s manager Simon Fuller and Mamma Mia! producer Judy Craymer.

Tentatively titled Viva Forever, the musical is likely start in London’s West End. Fuller first approached Craymer about it in 2008, and Geri Halliwell has also met the producer to discuss ideas for the musical.

Speaking about what form it might take, Craymer told the Daily Variety that it “is not a tribute show”.

Craymer added: “It’ll be a mix of fact and fiction, a story of women and friendship. The Spice Girls create a lot of excitement, and the show will tap into the essence of them.”

Fuller hailed Craymer a “star”, before saying he wants to “create something really special for this next decade”.
