Lauryn Hill close to completing new solo album

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 by mattj

Lauryn Hill has slowly been popping up in more and more places over the last few months as she continues to make progress on her new album.

The album still doesn’t have a title or a release date, but it’s certainly going to be all about her.

‘I have respect for what people do,’ Hill said in an interview with MTV. ‘I also like to hear the eclectics, I like to hear the mixture. There’s a lot of different creative energies out there right now. I respect the different sounds that I’m hearing. It’s been such a long time since I’ve gotten my voice and my ideas [out]. In terms of collaborations, that’s not even something I’ve been thinking about per se. I’m happy that people are still making music. That we still have a platform with which to make music. It’s gonna be interesting to see what the future holds.’

She added that she thinks the current music industry has an ‘interesting energy’ and that the fact that it’s different is ‘not necessarily a bad thing’.

This will be Hill’s first album since her one and only solo studio album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ from 1998.

She was also a member of The Fugee’s, who were catapulted to worldwide success with their 1996 album ‘The Score’.

The Odd Couple: Amy Winehouse invites Pete Doherty to live with her

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 by mattj

The ‘Rehab’ singer has reportedly told her close friend he could move into her new house in Camden, north London, because he needs a base in the English capital while working.

‘Amy has offered Pete a place to stay while he’s in London working on The Libertines comeback,’ says a source close to the singer.

‘She thinks a lot of him and they’ve been through a lot together so she wants to help him out. ‘

However, friends of 26-year-old Amy, who has previously battled drug addiction and is said to be trying to curb her partying lifestyle, worry about the impact living with Pete could have on both their battles to stay clean and sober.

The source added, ‘Pals are worried because they are bad influences on each other.’

Amy and Pete previously worried fans in 2008 when they posted a series of bizarre videos of themselves playing with mice on YouTube.

The ‘Back to Black’ star’s father Mitch Winehouse has previously spoken about his disapproval over her friendship with the ‘What A Waster’ hitmaker.

He said: ‘I do worry about people like Pete Doherty. He’s a scumbag. I flipped when I saw him sitting with Amy backstage at her Brixton gig. That night I went crazy. My wife thought I was going to have a heart attack, I was apoplectic.’

Could this possibly be a good idea??

Guns N Roses gig cut short at Reading and Leeds Festivals

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 by mattj

Axl Rose is making his disgust known as Guns N Roses’ Leeds Festival set is cut short.

At the Reading Festival, Guns N Roses came on an hour late and had their set curtailed by the UK’s noise restriction laws which prevent festivals from carrying on after midnight.

The band returned to play their Leeds Festival headliner with the same snarky attitude, Rose claiming that the promoters were cutting them off again.

NME reports that Rose said from the stage at 11:20pm, “We would like to play a few more songs for you tonight. But someone is telling us the show’s over. This war ain’t over yet.”

He claimed that the band were told earlier that they could perform until 11:58pm, but the Leeds and Reading festival boss Melvin Benn refuted the claim.

Following the outburst, the Gunners did an encore of ‘Paradise City’ and left, Rose telling the audience ‘Be safe getting out of here. And for the problems with the promoters: f**k you.’

Despite Axl’s combative statements, Benn said that he would ‘definitely’ book the band again but doubts he’ll “be getting a Christmas card from them, which is a shame because tonight was great”.

Kanye West and Jay-Z working on collab mini-album

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 by mattj

Kanye West has claimed that he is working on a collaboration album with Jay-Z.

The pair released their new joint track ‘Monster’ last week as part of West’s plan to give away a free song every Friday until Christmas.

West has now said that the hip-hop giants will follow this up with a five-track record titled ‘Watch The Throne’.

Writing on Twitter, West commented: “Me and Jay ’bout to drop a -fivesong album called ‘Watch the Throne’.”

A later tweet revealed pair have finished two tracks for the album, although a release date for the whole album has yet to be confirmed.

Earlier this month, Kanye West said that his own new album - which previously had the working title ‘Good Ass Job’ - will be released in November.

Leona Lewis causes a disturbance during London stage show

Monday, August 30th, 2010 by mattj

The ‘Bleeding Love’ singer, who was reportedly drinking alcohol with pals, had been watching the ‘Burn The Floor’ musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre, when she amazed theatregoers during a break in the performance when she started re-enacting sexy dance moves from the show and shouting about how she had a crush on one of the show’s female dancers.

“Leona seemed very impressed with Venezuelan dancer Karen Hauer. She kept shouting out: ‘She’s so hot!’ ” one source claims.

The 25-year-old beauty recently split from her boyfriend of 10 years, Lou Al-Chamaa, but has since been flooded with male attention.

She was spotted swapping numbers with The Wanted singer Max George, and went on a date with a mystery man to a zoo in Germany.

However, Leona’s new party-girl persona has come as a surprise, as the pop star has previously blasted people who drink alcohol to have fun as having a “stupid mindset”.

She previously said: “I find some people’s attitude to drinking ridiculous. I think it’s so funny that people think you have to drink in order to have fun. It’s such a stupid mindset! A lot of my friends are like, ‘I need a drink to get on the dance floor!’ I don’t need that ‘help me to relax’ thing. If I’m around my friends then I can really relax and have a good time, that’s all I need. I don’t need alcohol.”

Cheers to that, Leona.

John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston back together??

Monday, August 30th, 2010 by mattj

The ‘Gravity’ singer ‘ who split from the 41-year-old beauty in August 2008, began dating her again in October that year before separating for the second time in March 2009 ‘ admits he is a strong believer in “second chances”, and that it’s important for him to “be with” the one he loves.

Speaking during a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, he said: “I believe in second chances! You might have been a pain in the a*s the last time around, but you can still start over again from home base. Next time you get a text from the one you love just text back ‘come over’ - no matter what happened in the past. If you really love someone, just tell them and be with them.”

John was performing for fans at the venue on Sunday, when he spoke candidly for the crowd.

A woman believed to be Jennifer was spotted sitting in the audience, although John’s spokesperson refused to confirm she was there.

Despite previously splitting from Jennifer, the 32-year-old singer ‘ who has also dated Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jessica Simpson ‘ recently revealed he had “never really gotten over” their relationship.

Only time will tell before the reconciliation is officially announced.

Lea Michele was called ‘too ethnic’ to land a leading TV role

Monday, August 30th, 2010 by mattj

The ‘Glee’ star, who plays geeky singer Rachel Berry in the high-school based musical TV show, thinks she had trouble being cast on television because of her looks.

She said, ‘I came out to Los Angeles with the hopes of taking a break from New York and the stage and maybe getting a little guest spot. I was always told that I was too ethnic, or not pretty enough, or too much this or not enough of that.’

However, her audition for ‘Glee’ went well because the show’s creator Ryan Murphy remembered her from a brief meeting in 2007, where the pair discussed Barbara Streisand.

She explained, ‘I was working on Broadway in New York, and the Broadway strike happened, and my co-star was working on a pilot with Ryan Murphy out here in Los Angeles.

‘I met Ryan… and we just had a great night talking about Barbara Streisand and our shared love for her and musical theatre and what not ‘ and I never saw him ever again.

”Glee’ was the first audition I went on in Los Angeles and Ryan was there, and I went, ‘Do you remember me?’ and he was like, ‘Of course I remember you.’ After going through the studio and the network, he then told me that he had written it with me in mind.’

Let’s thank the Glee Gods that Lea was cast!

FanShake Guru, here.

Paul McCartney wants to collaborate with MGMT… eventually

Friday, August 13th, 2010 by mattj

The former Beatle revealed his admiration for the psych-pop duo, and said that if they rang he up he would be happy to collaborate. However, MGMT have revealed that a McCartney collaboration hasn’t yet been confirmed.

“I like MGMT,” McCartney said. “I’d like to work on some more dancey stuff with MGMT. But it has to happen organically.”

He jokingly added, “We need to talk about it. I can’t call them. If they called me, I’d say, ‘How did you get my number?’. But I’d do it.”

MGMT frontman Andrew VanWyngarden explained that they would still be interested in heading into the studio with the former Beatle as soon as possible.

“We did play a show with him [McCartney] last summer at New York park, which was really cool,” he said. “But nothing has really come of the collaboration part of it.”

He added: “We still would really like to do that. We like Paul McCartney’s songwriting abilities and musical sensibilities. His bass playing is unreal - he is definitely my favourite bass player.”

Paul McCartney is also currently considering a highly-anticipated collaboration with himself, fellow Beatle Ringo Starr, and folk-rock legend Bob Dylan. However, the Wings frontman isn’t sure if that venture is in the cards. “I did say I wanted to work with Bob but that was ages ago and he hasn’t been in touch. I can’t contact him. That’s not cool.”

We at FanShake hope to see a McCartney/MGMT collab soon!

Like Paul McCartney’s enthusiasm for MGMT?
